US Department of Education - Office of Federal Student Aid

As a Senior System Integration Architect I assisted in defining the long term strategic direction for integrating Federal Student Aid systems.

As the project lead for Enterprise Access Management I was responsible for defining the strategic direction for security and access within Federal Student Aid. A primary goal of the project was to work toward an enterprise single-sign-on system.  Additionally Federal Student Aid was investigating federated authentication systems as a part of the GSA eAuthenticaion project. I served as a subject matter expert for the eAuthentication project and also worked to educate the business owners on the benefits of moving to a federated authentication model.

Through my work at the Department of Education I expanded my in depth knowledge of many student aid programs such as FFEL Loans, Direct Loans, Pell Grants, and Perkins Loans. This well rounded and detailed business knowledge enables me to understand the business drivers and problem statements of the education community.

While at Federal Student Aid, I was the technical lead for all XML related projects.  This included the technical lead for the XML Registry and Repository for the Education Community and the technical advisor for the XML ISIR.

The Registry is a central access point for XML Core Components, XML Schemas, and supporting documentation for the Education Standards Community. The data has been created and reviewed through a collaborative effort between the Department of Education's Office of Federal Student Aid (FSA), the Postsecondary Electronics Standards Council (PESC), and the education standards community.

The Meteor Project

The Meteor Project

Meteor provides a collaborative effort to provide financial aid professionals and students with online aggregated financial aid award information from various industry participants.   I served as the chief architect of Meteor from 2001 to 2004.  I directed the first production quality release of the project and architected a scalable solution that is meeting the needs of the Higher Education community.
